Real Estate Opportunities Around Japan’s Ski Resorts

There is a growing demand among Australians for second homes near Japan’s ski resorts, especially during the holiday season. Japan offers incredibly affordable real estate compared to Australia, making it an attractive option. However, due to language barriers, legal differences, and unfamiliar business customs, many hesitate to take advantage of these opportunities. It’s a shame — or as we say in Japan, “mottainai,” a word expressing regret over wasted potential.

No matter how much Japanese you study, buying a property — often a major investment — in a foreign country can be intimidating. And while Japan is known for its hospitality, not everyone is always honest, especially in real estate — a sentiment that may resonate universally. That’s why having a trustworthy Japanese ally who can act in your best interest is essential.

But being Japanese is not enough.

Buying a house isn’t just about finding a place to live — it’s also about making a smart investment. That requires experience, a sharp eye for value, and strong negotiation skills rooted in real-world business experience.

I studied law at a Japanese university and hold a national real estate license (Takken). After working in Japan’s corporate world for three years, I launched my own business, which I ran as a managing director for 13 years before selling it. Following that, I relocated to Brisbane, Australia as an investor through a Queensland State Nomination. I’ve since purchased real estate in Australia as well, gaining insights into both markets.

This diverse experience allows me to bridge the gap between Australians and Japanese real estate. I understand both cultures, both systems, and most importantly, the needs of foreign buyers looking to invest in Japan.

It would be mottainai not to put this experience to work for you!
